Music

 What kind of music I listen to? Whole range of those... anything from R&B, blues, soul, jazz, rock, chinese pop, japanese pop.... Actually I listen to chinese pop a lot more than english. Especially so as a chinese myself. Think about it, when you are a chinese, who wanna listen to you singing english. I've my roots in chinese and I'll stay on, surprisingly chinese pop offer many things that the english side doesn't. It's just a completely different music world.

  • Chinese pop
    Who do I listen to? I'm not so particular about the singer, I'm rather more interested in a good song.

    One of them who impressed me is Cheer Chen, her songs are just so special and touching. She look very normal, so normal that you most properly can't spot her in a crowd. Her voice is also not very unique, I just can't put my finger on what attracted me. But she does.

  • English pop
    The english artist I am most impress with currently is Avril Lavigne. Rock style, only 17 yrs old with one album. Good enough, can't wait for her second album. She reminds me of Alanis morissette.

  • Christian Praise and Worship music
    Nowsday the whole world is singing music from Hillsong, and I think they are really good. My church sing songs from Planet Shakers and Christian City Church(CCC) as well among all the rest. Among all these I think CCC are really good, infact they are so good that most churches find it too difficult to play their song.

    My music mentor once said that as a musician, we need to go into 3 specific areas:-

  • Learn
    Have to continuously learn more about music, about the instrument, there are always more things to learn, even the professionals are constantly learning and improving themselves.

  • Teach
    How can you be so selfish as to not pass on whatever you've know? I realize that I can improve much faster if someone would have guided me. Now I want to be that person who show others how to learn, how to practise the instrument. I want to bless as much as possible.

  • Perform
    Every musician's dream is to be able to perform and steal the limelight once in a while. You never fully release yourself until you have heard the live respond from a live audience, that will really make it for you.

    So I'm living it out. Constantly learning from books, internets, friends; teaching in CHC guitar ministry; and also playing in my cell group and children church every week. But this is only the beginning...

    I listen to lots of christian praise and worship and christian comtemporary music. From Christian City Church,(they are awesome), Hillsong, Planet Shakers, Delirious, Steven Curtis Chapman etc... Although I don't listen to those upright anti-christ group and artist, I listen to secular music too, to really learn from a wide spectrum of the musical world.
